FLINT, MI—The Islamic Medical Association is distributing grocery store gift cards to frontline healthcare workers this week.
The association, one of the largest medical professionals’ association in Genesee County, will distribute 450 gift cards worth $25 to nurses, technologists and therapists at three hospitals in the county.
The effort is part of a campaign launched by the association to support a series of initiatives to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The efforts include ordering PPE, such as N95 surgical masks and face shields, for health professionals.
Along with the grocery store gift cards, the association will also be holding food distributions. It also intends to sponsor rooms for overnight accommodations of frontline healthcare workers.
Physicians in the association have raised $20,000 of their $30,000 goal to support relief efforts for impact by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Islamic traditions remind us, ‘The best among you are those who bring greatest benefits to others’,” said Sajid Chaudhry, current President of the Islamic Medical Association.
