SPRINGFIELD, VA — Ahead of the start of Ramadan, Islamic Relief USA will assemble food boxes in Springfield this weekend to help people in need.
Islamic Relief USA, an Alexandria-based nonprofit, will hold its annual Ramadan Food Box Pack-Out on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11. The session will take place at 6820 Commercial Dr., Suite F, and shifts will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The event seeks to pack 10,000 packaged meals at each location. Volunteers will pack boxes will nonperishable foods, then sent to Americans in need through food pantries, places of worship and other locations. Volunteers may also help put together and break down cardboard boxes, arrange boxes of food and seal packages.
“During Ramadan, it is essential for Muslims to not only fast from sunrise to sunset,” said Sharif Aly, CEO of Islamic Relief USA. “It also is a time to reflect, to think about people in your community with little means, especially with regards to healthy food. The food box pack-out sessions enable local communities to make a positive difference.”
